Valhalla II Servers Shutting Down

Unfortunately, only one person subscribed so the Valhalla II D3 servers and SOD will be shut down effective today.  It's unfortunate because they were popular for beginners and competitive players alike due to its great connection and eclectic mix of missions that were NOT Subway Dancer.

The DescentValhalla.com website and Valhalla II game servers have been running for almost two years now.  It has remained online mainly because of donations received so far.  In that time several great services have been created including:

• Combined Descent Game Tracker
• High performing, automatically rotating Valhalla II D3 servers
• Leaderboards
• Many helpful guides

The Valhalla II D3 server has had over 5,000 games played with almost a million kills recorded.  It's been a great ride and we all want to see it continue.  Unfortunately, RL™ has taken a huge chunk of my income.  It's been almost five months since we've received a single donated dollar.  I have now put up several hundred dollars to keep the game server running to this point.  That's not even including the web server costs.  That's also not including the time to set up and configure the games and deal with the hosts billing issues.  So this is a plea for the Descent community to pitch in and lend a helping hand.

Instead of me just asking for one-time donations, which would help but would result in this post again in several months, I am looking to create a group of subscribers.  The more of us that band together, the smaller the costs will be for all of us.  As an incentive, I decided to create a new service where only subscribers will have access to create a dedicated, custom Valhalla II D3 server.  The SOD feature has gone live today.  I have programmed it in such a way that immediately upon subscribing, you can log out and back in, and you'll be able to create your own custom D3 servers.

The magic number is 7.  If we can get and maintain 7 subscribers, these wonderful services can remain online.  Best case scenario, if we get more than 7, we could reduce the cost for each of us!  However, if we are unable to get any subscribers, the game servers and possibly the website will have to be taken offline. Please do not assume someone else will swoop in and save the day (e.g. bystander effect).
